Variety description

The fig 'Brown Turkey' is very common north of the Alps. It is very fertile; the ripe fruits are dark maroon with a light stem. The flesh of 'Brown Turkey' is strawberry-coloured, typical of figs, and tastes sweet and aromatic with a lemony freshness.

The wide distribution of this variety reflects its good qualities for cultivating north of the Alps. It is robust, high-yielding, considered one of the most frost-tolerant varieties and grows vigorously to 4 m in height. The fig 'Brown Turkey' bears fruit twice. The first harvest begins at the end of July to mid-August. The second harvest takes place from mid-September to mid-October, whereby these fruits are somewhat smaller.
