Variety description

The sugar root is an old, aromatic root vegetable that was supplanted by the potato and the sugar beet and is of little importance today. Wrongly so, because the sugar root is sweeter and more aromatic than carrots, easy to cultivate, perennial and hardy.

The sugar root grows up to 100 cm high. She is a weak feeder and likes it sunny but not too dry. The need for water is particularly high in summer. Our sugar root is a selection with relatively thick roots. The advantage of young plants lies mainly in the uniformity and higher yield thanks to faster growth. The plants are lifted from late autumn when the storage of sugar and starch is complete. This can be done throughout the winter as needed, provided the ground is not frozen.

There are two options for further cultivation in the following year: either you leave part of the rootstock in the ground or you take individual roots and simply put them back into the ground.
