Variety description

Oca 'Tuberosa', like the other ocas from the South American Andes, is grown here as an annual crop. The foliage and tubers are not frost hardy. Like all ocas, 'Oca Tuberosa' requires a semi-shady to shady location. Direct sun and heat leads to a complete growth stop.

What is particularly interesting about oca is that all parts of the plant can be used. The leaves and flowers are wonderfully suitable as an addition to salads, where they create a fresh note with the tartness of the oxalic acid. The shoots can be used like rhubarb, but they can also be eaten raw. The tubers can also be used raw or like potatoes. 'Oca Tuberosa' forms the largest tubers of all ocas, which is why the cultivation of this variety is mainly focused on the tuber yield.Like the other oca varieties,

'Oca Tuberosa' is completely undemanding, vigorous and healthy. Apart from patience because of the late harvesting of the tubers and some space, nothing else is needed for a successful oca cultivation.
