Variety description

'Fruttosa' is a Cape gooseberry with a very aromatic, sweet-sour ratio, combined with coconut and vanilla notes. The berries of this variety thus taste particularly fruity, almost exotic.

Cape gooseberries belong to the nightshade family (Solanaceae) and are cultivated in our region as annuals. The vigorous plants are actually perennial, but not hardy.

Physalis 'Fruttosa' grows vigorously upright and reaches a height between 150 and 200 cm. As with all Cape gooseberries, one should only fertilise very carefully, if at all. 'Fruttosa' produces ripe berries from the beginning of August. A typical feature of this variety is that the fruit stalks adhere strongly to the bush. It is therefore easier to pick the berries directly from the fruit pods. In terms of size, the fruits are between 'Little (Big) Buddha' and 'Peters Beste'. If you like particularly fruity Cape gooseberries, choose 'Fruttosa'.
